Is Super Mario on Crack?
Here's a great NYT piece on the increasing representation of drugs in video games. In the upcoming remake of Narc, players can take pot, ectasy, crack and LSD. Each drug affects gameplay - some challenges become easier, but you risk addiction if you overdo it.
As the game designers point, out this isn't any different from what Super Mario's alway's done:
"There's always something you can use to enhance or alter the player-character's abilities," Mr. Cline said. "We were the first game to call them pot and coke and crack."

Super Mario is simply being stereotyped as a socialist and communist character. He went to the U.N. and found out what is going on in the world. He appeared on Spaceghost as did the Joker to tell that this is unfair to demonize them. They make Mario's resemblence to that of Saddam Hussein which is outragous. He is getting involved because his character is getting older. The Joker along with Sub Zero was brought down by companies becasue of looks. They shouldn't do Mario in the same respect.
