"If Fox News Had Been Around Throughout History"
Brilliant stuff. I think we'll be seeing a lot more like this as the Daily Show/Onion sensibility seeps into pop historiography. It's definitely a nice change of pace from Ken Burns . . .

Juan Cole and Steve Gilliard on the Judith Miller Saga
Juan Cole has the sharpest analysis I've seen of why the NYT allowed Judith Miller to hijack their Iraq coverage: they were cowed by the attacks from Fox News. They were getting repreatedly slammed from the right for not cheerleading Bush's war mobilization, and they figured Miller's reportage would appease the critics calling them traitors. They problem was, just on the level of facts, they had been right, while their critics - and Miller - were full of it.
See also Steve Gilliard's great coverage of the battles within the Times and the rest of the Plame drama, featuring Photoshopped pix of Miller, Cheney, Rove and Libby in "Stop Snitching" t-shirts.

Other Electric Dreamers
I'm a member of a pretty motley crew.
I was looking to see who else online uses variations on the title Electric Dreams, the name of my upcoming book.
- Electricdreams.com appears to be a website for a seriously hardcore paintball group. At least I hope they're just using paint. The front page features a link to a streaming version of Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue."
- Electricdreams.org, on the other hand, is owned by The Electric Dreams Organization, which appears to be a very cool group promoting safe sex among gay clubgoers. They haven't put anything up at that URL yet, but there's a rundown of what they do at partysafe.org
- There's also a series of porn films titled Electric Dreams available from Amazon. Unsurprisingly, they show up well before my book if you type "electric dreams" into an Amazon search.
- Of course, you can also get the original 1984 film Electric Dreams from Amazon. I can't get too cranky about that one, since it inspired the title of my own book.
- Finally, it turns out a book published in 2004 is titled Electric Dreams: One Unlikely Team of Kids and The Race to Build the Car of the Future. I may not be able to overtake the porn or the Hollywood movie in the Amazon search listings, but maybe I can beat out the unlikely team of kids.

Surprisingly Sharp Al Gore Speech on the Sorry State of American Journalism
I don't know if Gore's new cable network, Connect TV, is the answer, but this is a great speech. Who knew Gore had been off reading Habermas?

Beatty to Challenge Arnold?
This is just too rich - Arnold's groping finally defuses Beatty's womanizer label, so Beatty can finally go from Bullworth to the state house. If the country is really starting a slow turn to the left, a Beatty win might be one great early indication.

Kanye and Mike Myers on SNL
Check out this great sketch from this week's SNL. Kanye West and Mike Myers meet awkwardly backstage - and Myers reveals that his American citizenship has been revoked and his phone's been tapped since West blurted out his attack on George Bush at the Katrina concert.
