(9-15-06) CFP: SSCA Instruction Design Division

Call for Submissions
Southern States Communication Association - Instructional Design
Division

The Instructional Development Division invites submissions of
competitive papers, well-developed abstracts, round table discussions,
and panel proposals for the 2007 SSCA convention in Louisville, Kentucky
(March 28 - April 1). Submissions should relate to the convention theme:
Relationships and Communities in the Digital Age. Interactive programs
that maximize engagement and emphasize application of research are
encouraged. Other topics of interest include: Pedagogical or
androgogical best practices, personal experiences with students in the
digital course, scholarly perspectives on the implications of teaching
and learning in an on-line environment, overcoming on-line obstacles,
and building and sustaining student accountability in the on-line
environment.

Submissions and nominations should be received no later than September
15, 2006.

All submissions should be sent via e-mail to loydryan@gmail.com
as an attachment in the form of a Microsoft
Word document (.DOC) or formatted as a portable document file (.PDF).
The author's last name should be used as the filename. Please indicate
"SSCA 2007 Submission" in the e-mail subject line. Participants of
accepted submissions are expected to attend the convention.

Competitive Papers:
Competitive papers should include a cover page with title, author's
name, institution, mailing address, phone numbers, and e-mail address.
Graduate students submitting papers should type STUDENT at the top of
the cover page. A top graduate student paper and top competitive paper
will be chosen from the accepted submissions. The top graduate student
paper from the Division will be submitted for the Association's Bostrom
Award, which is given to the top graduate student paper accepted for the
conference.

Panels and Roundtable Discussions:
Panel proposals should include: (1) the Program Proposal Form, (2) a one
page rationale for the proposed program, (3) the program copy, and (4) a
list of all proposed participants, including their names, affiliations,
mailing addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses, and (5) a
brief abstract for each panelist's contribution. The proposal form,
additional instructions, and examples may be found at the SSCA website
(www.ssca.net ). The Division welcomes
proposals from other SSCA units who wish to co-sponsor a panel that
focuses on the scholarship of teaching and learning. Graduate student
panels are also welcome. Panel submissions focusing on the scholarship
of a communication scholar in the area of instructional development and
design are highly desirable.

Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award:
The Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award is open Association
wide. Any member of SSCA may nominate a graduate student for this award.
Self-nominations will not be accepted. Nominations are to be sent via
e-mail and should include evidence of teaching effectiveness, an
overview of the student's responsibilities in the department, plus any
additional supporting materials you deem necessary. In addition, 3
letters of endorsement should be sent in a separate e-mail directly from
the reference to Ryan Loyd (loydryan@gmail.com
).
